Back in the 1940's The Red Blazer Restaurant first appeared on Manchester Street in Concord NH as a quaint clam bar. In the 1980's it featured a popular pub and rumor has it that the floor was made of peanut shells and laughter filled the air.
But alas, our peanuts can only be kept in barrels today.
Yet, laughter and good cheer still abound.
We purchased The Red Blazer in March of 2000. At that time, it had suffered some fire and water damage and had begun showing its age. As our patrons know, the restaurant has changed "big time" since then. It is not only more than twice the original size, but great effort has gone into keeping the rustic charm and feel of this Concord NH landmark.
Still today, first time customers will say how they can't believe all the changes and tell us that their last visit may have been 15 to 20 years ago. I recently talked to a customer who stated he wouldn't come here before because he associated "pub" as somewhere a family may not wish to patronize. Only after hearing several great reviews from friends and others, did he decide to come in.
Another observation was made by a relatively new customer (coincidentally his first visit came when invited to attend a function). He said that he saw the police here a lot and figured we must cater to a rough crowd. Well, the fact of the matter is, we have had few incidents where we've had to call the police. The big problem comes when someone is speeding up the hill on Manchester Street. The best place to pullover is in front of our restaurant on our property. Naturally, the police are right behind the vehicle with their blue lights on! To a person driving by, they may think the police are visiting us again!
The Red Blazer Restaurant and Pub has a colorful past and I hope a great future. We, the most recent owners for seven years, have worked hard to build a strong reputation and solid name.
